I'm putting a Tremec 5 speed in my 68 Bird and was wondering if there is anything special I need to do to get the pilot bearing into the crank. The car originally came with a power glide. I know that the Ponch blocks are somehow different from Auto manual, but not sure how.

PLEASE don't tell me that I have to pull the crank and have it drilled!!!!

First make sure you have the right bearing depending on what input shaft they put in the 5 speed.

I bought the correct pilot bearing, I was just curious if there are any issues before I tear into the project.

I just did this exact conversion on my 68. The pilot bushing just dropped right in. It's an expensive little sucker at almost $40, but it works.

the bushing should be staked in place in two spots with a punch or chisel

Do you happen to know what length the driveshaft will need to be?

I'll measure it next time I go under and report back.
