I just recently picked up a 66 GTO intake and AFB carb setup. I bought it because it looked very complete and I figured I could maybe make a few bucks on it. I posted it on PY and someone promptly told me that it doesn't have to correct air cleaner on it. The carb tag codes for a 66 GTO auto w/ the California AIR emissions setup. The air cleaner is the pancake type. It got me to wondering... I know the 67 326 birds w/ the AIR had a rather std looking air cleaner with a flat base and a top with the air horn but what about the 400s with the AIR setup? Did they have a chrome lided air cleaner?

Yes, regular black lower section with a single snorkel, chromed lid. I have a photo around here someplace.

Blackbird - that's the standard Firebird 400 air cleaner for '68 and '69.

Thanks all. Looks like it's definitely not the original air cleaner. Too bad the AFB has a different sized opening than the Qjet.
