When I'm looking for the numbers for my trans to tell whether it's original or not, am I looking for something stamped into the case or is it a tag? From what I've seen on the site here, it looks like the tag/stamping should be on the driver's side of the tranny, one vertical tag/stamp near the top and the other horizontal. Is this correct?
If it's a tag that I'm looking for, no good news there, b/c the tag doesn't match my car - it reads 978766WO. However, the casting number of the trans does at least indicate that it was the right year - shows up as a '68-'70 Muncie and I've got a '68 'Bird.
the trans should have your vin numbers stamped on the drivers side close to the bell housing. those numbers seem to be a parts number related to the trans type but I not sure. I have a 68 muncie and thats where the vin is.
