OHC 4 barrel Rochester carb Tired rebuilding look buy new eldelborck carb what do you think , has anyone match one up or have any thoughts about it , please info wanted (HELP)
Personally I have not purchased or installed a Holley on my Sprint. I have however looked into it and do know that it has been done many times with success. IIRC looking for an older style (4120?) or some number model is the one that has been used in the past but I would need to look that model number up again. There is no hardware made for the throttle so you'll need to fab something up to make it work.
I have also read where guys have taken other more modern 4 barrel carbs with electric chokes and made them work. Mostly from Cadillacs or Buicks which can be found for less on EvilBay.
In my signature at the bottom here I have a link to the YUKU OHC forum where all of this information is at.
Regarding your QJet I would recommend having Cliff Ruggles rebuild it. He has a long bag log and it may take a year but his work is highly acclaimed.
I will second Marc's recommendation to have Cliff rebuild your Quadrajet. He is not cheap, but does very good work. I had my Sprint Carb rebuilt from him and the difference was night and day. Personally, I would try to stay stock because I can already see you have the stock air cleaner on your car. However, both Marc and myself tend to lean towards keeping these extremely rare birds they way they came from the factory.
If he wants a spare so he can at least drive his car I completely understand. I have never gone forward with buying and installing a Holley where I should have 25 years ago. This way I could have taken the QJet and worked on it until I got it right without the car sitting dead in the water. In 1985 I outfitted a 77 Chevelle with a Holley and it picked up a bunch of power and ran perfect right out of the box. For the time it was perfect and I never changed anything about the carb.
FWIW I have instead pursued finding additional OHC carbs which has landed me a pile of carb bodies, old unusable parts, a mountain of cleaning crap in the garage and no working spare carb. To date I have spent approximately $1000 dollars on all of this where I could have just bought a Holley for a couple hundred and made up some throttle brackets.
