My lack of firebird knowledge is really gonna show through here but I'm learning.
What are the differences between the 67 and 68 birds? I've found a 67 fairly close to home and was wondering if there are many one year only parts or any differences between them. I know about the window vent but thats it.
Jordan, here is a link to that exact question from earlier in the month posted here on the site. /forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=26;t=000708#000000

Doors can be switched , BUT there is a hinge problem,...as w all problems it can be overcome, but its not a direct switch...cant remember excactly ,but its something w the hinges.... but if you dont have a/c , I`d keep the vent windows , come in handy when its warm, better ventilation...
I`m copying Bretts list of differences from another post, where he incorporates Jims list...
Jim's list with a few of these added: 1. Vent windows 2. Front marker lights 3. Grills (color) 4. Fender extensions 5. Front grills (color,67 silver) 6. Hood latch 7. Hood (latching point) 8. Fender emblems 67 not tapered 9. Harmonic balancer 10. Intake manifold 11. Carb 12. Throttle rod in 67, Cable in 68 13. Motor (67 - 326 to 68 - 350 ) 14. Heads 15. Air filter 16. Hood tach 17. Windshield washer pump 18. Doors 19. Door panels 20. Side mirror (round to square) 21. Convertible header chrome (68 dull finish ) 22. Pillar post trim (67 Chrome with deluxe ) 23. Speedometer (67 120mph - 68 160mph 48. Gas Door Lift 24. Vent balls (67 AC Only) 49. dash pad 67 flat 25. steering wheel 27. Woodgrain on dash 28. Console(67 colored, Rear ashtray & rear light) 29. Door Hinge 30. Door Glass 31. Shifter (67 rod, 68 cable) 32. Shifter (handle) 33. Lock pulls and ferules 34. Windlass end caps 35. Temp control panel lens 36. Inside Mirror Bracket 37. Fold Down Latches 38. Fold Down Partition 39. Rear side Panels INT. 40. Quarter dome Light (67) 41. Console Shift Plate 42. LH. Rear Wheel House 43. LH. Rear Shock Tower 44. Shocks (67 Non Staggered) 45. Shock Mounting Plate 46. Springs (67 Mono ) 47. Rear Side Marker (68 Only) 48. Clock face color 49. Dash face color 50. TVS - Thermal Vacuum Swtch in 68 51. Subframes 52. tie rod ends (outer?)drag link 53. door jam vents (67 HT did not have them) 54. 68 had neutral safety switch 55. deck lids had different holes punched on inner frame 56. And Bird glass on some 68's!
Yes the 67/68 clock faces are slightly different.
Yes Jim, the TVS started in 68... But I'm not sure about the A.I.R. (air injection reactor) or smog pump systems, were they 67 Cali only in that form?
A.I.R pump on an original 67
The Glove box emblem was also for 67... but may be different?
Door lock pulls are larger diameter in 68 than in 67 and the ring they go through is a small clear plastic one in 67, chrome and larger in 68.
Rear console ashtray and light in 67...
And other obvious console differences for 68 as mentioned...
I think the fold down rear seats had different latches in 67 than in 68?
How long were the windshield washer bottles Black? I know the 67's should have had the black bottles.
I'm sure I'll think of more... yes, we'll have to do 67 VS 68, then 68 VS 69 as far as the differences go...
Keep the vent windows, i prefer opening them up on a coupe vs. rolling down the window a crack. Ernie, i run the route off and was finished for the day Nice getting paid for 8 hours if i can do it in 4 hrs

David you must be running the whole route now with the car near completion! I wouldn't touch the windows they look great and are functional. Last summer was a bad one for bees out here and every time I had the kids in the car and windows down I'd swing the vent windows out as bees and other bugs can easily get into the back of the car at highway speeds... which did happen once. They also deflect a bit of the airflow for the passengers in the back as well. I don't see the gain with the work needed for the swap.
I think Jordan has his sites set on a 68' but having a hard time finding one in his price range and condition he is looking for, hence the 67 to 68 conversion(my thoughts, i may be wrong).Jordan they are the same car really and you only will be creating work as well as probably devaluing the car at the same time. 67's are just as sweet. Any year FGF is a great car to own! Yep, i'm a running Ernie!!!

I never paid much attention to that and know they changed to the white nbottles at some point, but didn't know when?
Also forgot one of my favorite things about 67's is the upper 1/8 of the inner doors are painted body color (or black) as opposed to the full door panels on 68's...
You pretty well got it David. I just think the 68's are a little cleaner looking. I could deal with the vents though if its a big deal to replace them. Right now though it looks like I'm getting myself into a 68 shell but we'll see.
