My alternator belt has always been a problem. Going to try a different belt today. Any tricks here I'm missing? Didn't want to use any dressing spray.

Make sure you have the stamped steel pully on the Alt and not a machined one.

I swaped over to a 15xx series with a 17xx series so they ride at the same depth on the pulley. Solved my belt squeel issues.

No spray
Try a different manufacturers belt, can also use some scotch Brite on the pullys. There may be some residue on them.

Hmmmm. I'm having an alternator belt issue too. Mine is squealing and coating the area with black belt residue. I've got a belt coming from Ames on Monday to replace the auto parts store belt. Likely will be the same belt. So there is an issue with the alternator pulley?

I can say that quality and materials are different from manufacturer to manufacturer.

I was actually throwing belts for awhile. Ended up being that the replacement alt had a different pulley. Swapped the old pulley onto the new alt and prob solved.

Changed out the pully to get it to go away.

seems I am having this issue as well. looks like the alt pully is sitting about 1/8th inch to far back. Not enough to throw the belt, but for sure squeals.

I would also check that one of your other belts is not the wrong size. I had adjustment and squealing issues on my Sprint until I replaces all the belts per the attached chart. Found out someone used the wrong belt size and it affected my overall tensioning. It doesn't take much.

thanks for that, but I will have to post a pic. as it seems the alternator is just a tad to forward so the alt pulley and water pump pulley are not aligned
