Don't trust my harmonic balancer (may have slipped) and would like to replace it with one that has the timing marks etched into the outer ring. I don't want to break the bank but want something that is of decent quality as well. I have a 1967 Firebird with the 326. Engine is numbers matching. Engine has been totally rebuilt and has a mild Comp cam. I have the advance set to around 16btdc and the timing tape keeps falling off which is a pain. I am trying to tune out some running hot issues and plan to replace the original balancer and also buy a higher flow water pump to fight the overheating at idle. Can any of you recommend a nice aftermarket balancer with etched timing marks to about 60 deg and also a water pump that may help my at idle heating issues?
You want a water pump with a cast impeller. Ames sells 8 bolt types with cast impellers. FlowKooler will rebuild your old one or sell you a new one that is supposed to flow more than stock.
