I have a set of chrome valave covers that came off my 67 firebird 400 back around 1992. As far as I know they were the original covers, but how can I tell? They are heave gauge metal, but have no GM part number anywhere on them. I am in the process of figuring out whether to re-chrome these or buy re-pops if these turn out not to be the originals. Any hints and ideas on how to tell?
These are off of a 67 400 that has the oil drippers in the head, and not in the valve cover.
Thanks!!

I believe that question has been asked before and it was stated there is no way to really tell the difference. The part number was on the box and not cast into the cover.
The new repop that Ames performance has are pretty well made. They seem pretty heavy and chrome is nice. To rechromed you two valve covers it will be pretty costly. I would say between 400-500. Re-chrome is expensive and the repops are 100. Since you cannot tell the difference you will have to weigh if it is worth it.
I agree with Harold. The repops are virtually a perfect match, and you can't beat the price. I don't think you can tell the difference.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.
