i bought my car with some M/T sportsman on the back. i believe they are 10" wide. i changed the rims and tires out, but kept the old ones. i recently put the M/T's back on for pavement destuction :-) but when i light em up, they leave no burn marks on the pavement at all. :-( are they just old tires or something???? how am i suppose to endorce muscle cars with no proof of power along my property front???
Your tires have a wide load spread out over 10". Power brake it till you cant see the neighbors house. That will get those babies warm and toasty. Than let off the brake. That will leave a nice signature. That ought to do it. Good luck! Ive got about a half dozen people that like to leave me a message that way.
LOL, thats what we do too! There are a half dozen or so muscle cars in a 4 block radius by my house,,, and even though we really dont know each other that well, we leave calling cards.
10 bolt Chevy rears won't handle much of that abuse, I don't know about Pontiac...one of my most memorable "ha, ha" events was doing extended brake torque competitions in a posi 318 'Cuda with a 727 trans, and a friend shattered the rear of his Impala and tore off the cover when he tried
Turbo 400 is pretty darn strong, just make sure your u-joints are in good shape.

Well just got off the phone with our local drag strip. My buddy with his 66 GTO and I are doing an awsome burn-out on Jan 1 at our annual Hangover Fest. Its about 30 degrees out. The track photograper said he'd Email me a pic in the next day or so. Now im computer stupid how do I get it to this forum? Thanks Bill
I think this topic and my previous post, was an omen of evens to come.
I dropped off my car yesterday for some work and on the way the following events transpired: It was a beautiful day in NW Indiana, sunny and about 70 degrees. On my way to drop off my car I came to the street in town where a nice blue with white SS striped 69 Chevelle lives, the owner was out front mowing the lawn. A couple ladies (50's or so) and a younger married couple were walking down the street. Additionally there were 3 other cars waiting for me (showing respect for the mighty bird) to depart from the stop sign. I glanced back at my brother-in-law who was following behind me, gave a crooked smile and nod, then proceeded to burry it! The screech of the tires was barley audible over the roar of my 400ci power pant (bored .030 over mind you). After a few seconds and 2 gears; gravity and friction conspired together to gradually ease my car off the line. Once the car hooked up I was off like a shot, leaving the sweet fragrance of burnt rubber rolling on the spring air! Seconds later my cell phone went off; my brother-in-law wanted me to know that I got 3 headshakes and two thumbs up! Not a bad ratio in my opinion. Another calling card left on a fellow muscle car’s doorstep in North West Indiana
burnouts are acctually better for your transmission than anything. it allows you to run the gearing in the tranny without a lot of stress, the gears are allowed to spin faster without any strain. its like jacking up the rearend and just putting the car in drive.
Joe,that was beautiful! Its like I was right there with you. I can see the panic in those ladies eye's...and the relief in the eyes of the chevy owner, that his car was not at that same stop sign having to answer the challenge...
I love the smell of burning rubber in the morning!
Pavell says that he drives like a grandmother. Yeah I sorta do too. AND IT SICKENS ME!
Most of the running gear parts for our beloved FGFs are readily available. I think there's some burnt rubber in my near future. My calling card won't be in stereo (open rear end) but it will be all 68 Poncho Power baby!
Hehehe I do romp on it. I definitely know how spongy the carpet is under the go-pedal.
However, I have refrained from doing a one wheel smoke show because it is hard on so many things. You only live once - right? I'll need video to save the moment.
