Recently purchased a 68 Firebird. Still learning a little bit each day...
I'm trying to figure out why some 68 Firebirds have the Firebird emblem on the outside of the glove box and some don't. Mine is a standard interior and thought maybe they just put the emblem on the deluxe interiors but now I'm seeing the emblem on the standard interiors as well.
Anyone know why some would have it and some don't? Was it associated with some option?
I agree with Jim. I have seen quite a few standard interior cars with the glove box bird emblem. I do not believe there is a connection to deluxe.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. Wonder if the glove box doors were changed or emblem added? The custom interior tend to all have the trim on the dash pad and the bird on the gb door, aside from the obvious seats, door panels, etc. I personally have never seen an original std. interior car with the gb emblem, in only 30 years of eyeing Firebirds. Although some folks here are correct that there were some misterys about these cars, which we believe had something to do with the plants they were built at. My 2 cents, if ya like the bird on the door, just add it, you'd still be original! That's what I did.
My 68 came from the Lordstown plant with standard interior and FB emblem on the glove box door. Nothing has ever been changed on the car and I still own it.
my 69 came w deluxe interior and NO glove box emblem , so I added mine to the glove box door....many could have added it to a std interior car , just for looks.
I can only speak for 68 and my standard interior definitely had the emblem. Could it be due to an interior styling change in 69 for both standard and custom?
