Anyone ever do this? I have a tilt column. The horn shorts out , so I disconnected it. I figured while I had the column dropped and the wheel off I'd go ahead and renew the wiring instead of trying to track down the specific short. (I know...lazy).
Gimme some input...

Yes, exactly how I would do it! 40+ year old wires cannot last forever.
hmmm, I thought it would be the opposite. Juice from the main buss passing through the relay, when switched, to the horns. The relay switch wire going to the steering column hot and to the horn button. When the horn button is pressed the juice goes to ground and activates the relay. I thought the horn switch grounded through the switch to the steering shaft, on a 68 anyway. I've been wrong before.
I could be wrong also Bluebird, as I am not sure if this is just for the 69's or others. I don't think it is very hard to see that ground wire when the column is attached to the steering gear box. If it isn't there than I guess it doesn't apply, if that is the case, my apologies!
Hey, I don't know. It just seems to me it grounds that way since the wire from the relay is hot and not grounded until the horn button is pressed. No need to apologise one way or the other we're just saying what we think. I've been in more than one car which had a horn blast every time the steering wheel went around. Kinda funny the first couple of times then really annoying. I'm no expert.
Yes, that could be, but I am not sure exactly what your horn is doing. Is it doing what you said above as far as turning the wheel and it starts blasting at certain spots or just continuous?
if your turning the wheel and it blowing the horn It sounds like a possible issue with your cancel cam or something out of alignment.
These are pics of my tempest not bird but using them for illustration only. You find a spring loaded copper contact that rides on the cancel cam. By grounding this you complete the circuit and the horn blows. Best approach is to pull the steering wheel pull out a volt/ohm meter and start looking over the parts. Understanding how the contact gets grounded through the steering is not all that hard.
The horn blow randomly while driving, and when I tilt the wheel. Sounds like you're on target.
My emergency flasher doesn't work, ... and I am starting to have issues with my tail and brake lights. I think its time to rewire the column, and renew the turn signal, flasher, and horn mechanisms. then move under the dash...
