I need to find some better fitting spark plug wires! My 'bird has factory air and there isn't much space to get even my hands in between the suitcase and the engine for #6 an #8 plugs, or between the compressor and the engine for #4 and #2 plugs. #6 and #8 are only reachable from underneath the car.
Once again I found #8 and #2 spark plug wires loose on the plugs. The wires are A/C Delco 8mm, off the shelf ready-fit. I'm going to replace them. What boot angle best fits this application, because it sure isn't the 90 degree boots that are on it now!

Vikki, i have accel 8mm with the straight boots. You can also find different/custom colours and custom fit( crimp your self plug ends) from accel, i found them at performance speed shops. The boots always seemed to fit my plugs.

I'll probably go with custom fit, since I'm going to replace the factory looms. They're fine for 7mm but tight on 8mm. Maybe some of those nice billet looms...

The Moroso "Blue Max" wires have long been the most consistently "good" wires on the market. You can now get them in colors other than blue, too. The plug boots on these wire are "bendable", so you can have them straight, 90-degree bend, or anywhere in between.

Vikki - I'll see if I can figure out what part number standard GM wires I have on mine. It's now been a couple years since I put them on but they fit fine with the AC brackets and the small spaces on the right side. But I do dread working the plugs and wires on that right side.
I found my receipt; the wires I use on my 68 400HO with AC are ACD 508G. I get at plugs #2 and #4 through the wheel well and #8 from underneath. If I recall, I believe I've done #6 from both the wheel well and from underneath.
Thanks for all the replies, the Morosos look good to me. I'm letting the stock look slide a little now in search of more performance. I've used Accels on several cars and I've only been happy about half the time with their durability. Now I need to pick up an HEI distributor...

For a really nice stock looking "HEI", check out www.davessmallbodyheis.com Dave has done about 6 conversions that I've personally installed, with DOZENS more for people I've referred, and I have yet to hear of anyone that has been dissapointed!
Kel, yep! Those are the wires. If you get them in "black", you can use carb cleaner and fine steel wool to remove the lettering, for a somewhat "stock" look.

Thanks, Lee. I looked at those distributors. I wouldn't convert my original, but if I had a spare and some extra $$ I'd consider it. I can pick up a standard HEI cheap, so I'll try that first.

Vikki, my '67 did not have enough room between the firewall and a "normal" HEI. The HEI "fit", but it rubbed the firewall slightly - while sitting. Under heavy throttle, the HEI was contacting the firewall even more. It made my timing a bit inconsistent, and made the distributor wear out early.
'69s seem to have a bit more room, though, so you may not have a problem with it.
good luck, Lee

I'm sure the difference in performance is minimal at standard coil voltages, but I like the extra thickness of insulation for added insurance against hot surface contact, especially with nonmetallic core plug wires. Have you ever opened the hood and watched the engine at night? Weak insulation creates very nice arcs that translate to weak spark at the plugs.

I've got a very high quality set of ratcheting spark plug wire crimpers if you need to borrow it. Also, I may have an extra HEI on the shelf if you need. Just let me know.
Jake, that makes a great excuse for me to finally meet you! Check and see if that HEI is around, and if you need anything I'll check my stockpile. Just send me an email!
