So this guy spent a lot of time and money on his Firebird. Common for all labors of love restorations. But hoping to recoup it...is the first thing you learn that you can't. (I am afraid to total up what I spent in the past for a classic car I still own). But this asking price is absurd. I inquired to this group a while ago about pricing for a decent base V8 and got replies ranging from $18k-$28K based on condition. I see this very often during my search. Inflated prices. The car I really want is still for sale at $38K. I may have to fly out in person to be taken seriously when negotiating a fair price - quite a gamble.

Take all the 'Maro mods off that car and you are still left with an $18k car. In his case, not money well spent!

Why would someone do this : "Over the past 2 years I have done a total Frame Off Restoration" and then offer it for sale??? Possible answers: Ran into hard times/in the dog house from the wife, or hopes to cash in on inflated price tag...or actually had the restoration completed 5-10 years ago and got some enjoyment out of it and now is onto something else. Hmmm. Amusing to me. Doesn't add up.

On top of everything else, there were a lot of non-factory personal decisions while "restoring" the car. I will ignore the modern/hot rod touches (tubular A arms, headers), but I scratch my head over the following:
Black interior, yet the dash is a mixture of body color and black (metal areas blue, gauge cluster is black) Black interior, but a white top. Door panel "Firebird" plaques in a strange place on top of the door panels. Silvered instrument pod inner surfaces (comes flat black from the factory to prevent glare, so he decides to induce tons of glare!) Gray (?) hood scoops 2nd Gen Firebird or Camaro exhaust tips Camaro rear spoiler (I know, I know...) The carpet looks really grungy already 70's era air shock raised rear end look.

Hey, my 'beast' came from the factory that way! Flambeau exterior, black interior, white top....

I was wondering about that. But I figured a white top with a parchment interior would definitely look cool.

Shock, you must be living under a rock, or don't own a TV. Don't you watch FAst N Loud! If this mod original FB was on that show, it would easily be going into the FB Museum for $225,000 !!!!!! (just kidding)
Believe it, there's a market out there for "updated" original cars, with a buyer somewhere. I'm sure if you offered $44k, he'd come down to 52k, then you counter offer at 48k, he'd go to 50, and Bam, you'd have a driving/restored car , enjoying it now! Isn't that how it works nowadays!! lol
I may be wrong, but should you put a 400 hood on a supposed "numbers matching" 350? Like some things about the car, but doesn't that do more harm than good? There's nothing wrong with a 350. Maybe I'm too nuch a purist. Just asking.

The 400 hood on a 350 is just the start of what is not original about that car.

I don't have a problem with the 400 hood, but, it looks like it has the 400 emblems on it. I added the "400" hood to my '69 because I like the look, but I also put 350 emblems on it.
I would imagine that there were some 350 fgf's that got dealer installed "400"hoods for that same reason. Still a better mod than a Camaro spoiler in my opinion. I know, I know, I'm opening a whole can of old worms here.
