I'm just about ready to start putting my front end back together. I ordered a heater core from vista pro (w/o AC) and when it arrived there were a number of rather large solder flakes rattling around inside. This is the first heater core I've replaced, but I have never seen that with a radiator. I assume that's not normal and I'd hate to waste time pressure testing and flushing it.
Anyone have any Heater core supplier suggestions? Not many choices. My first inclination is to return it, but it's going to hold up putting the front end back together unless I don't put the RH fender back on...
I bought one at O'Reillys and when I went to install it, it VERY LIGHTLY tapped the firewall and one hose extension fell right off.
Took it back to the store, opened another box, and that same extension was rattling around loose in the box.
Salesman was a bit skeptical with my story until he saw that.
I ended up buying the more expensive one through Ames and it held up well.
So if you buy one local, get a little rough with it before you leave the store, just to make sure.

I got mine from NPD, they sent a AC one first but the second was perfect. The one I took out was butchered and Craig helped identify the correct part. Gordy
CAN'T FIND A HEATER CORE THAT FITS I have an A/C car with A/C deleted. I put a brand new core from O'Reilly's and the tubes were 4" on center. I "coaxed" it together and drove 2500 miles ok. Now in paint shop and bumped hoses replacing fender and leaked inside (doh!). Took it all apart again, and CAN'T FIND A CORE that fits correctly. O'Reilly's replaced under warranty, but I had them order two. The hose welds on one were poor, but both hose tubes were too close together. Ordered from Advance, same problem. Ames core also is 4" on center and they could not provide a solution. ANYBODY know where I can get a heater core with tubes 4 1/2 on center?
