Hi Guys, I just installed a pertronix unit in my car tonight. After reading the instructions I decided to hook the red wire of the unit to a switched 12 volt power supply instead of the positive side of my coil because one of the biggest problems they listed in the troubleshooting section was too low of voltage to the unit. So I hooked it up to my wiper motor power where my tach was hooked up. It wouldn't start. Turns out that there is no power to the wipers when the key is in the cranking position. Tested it with battery power to the unit and the car started right up. Does anyone know of a switched power supply that has power during cranking? or should I just run a relay activated by the power to the coil? Thanks for any help. Neill
I usually just mount a 30 amp relay on the firewall and run a new wire directly to the battery and use the resistor wire to trigger the relay. Guaranteed 12v all the time.
