Does anyone have the cast numbers for the 67 std and 400 grilles, and the 68 std and 400 grilles? Are the cast numbers different for the standard grille and the 400 grille for each year? or are they the same?
Is the Pontiac emblem bolted on the grille, the same for a standard grille and a 400 grille?
I have found cast numbers LH 9788857 and LH 9793726 ??
Ok, here is the numbers for the 68 grilles. LH is driver side, RH is passenger side.
standard grille LH 9788857 RH 9788856 Pontiac emblem 485599 with wide bar holding letters together 400 grille LH 9793726 RH 9793725 ? (on car) Pontiac emblem 9788859 with small width bar holding letters together
It was a really slow day, so I decided to go do some research over at the First Gen Site.
Turns out these grilles are "Exterior Trim" and not part of the front bumper assembly like I would have assumed. So they are #31 on the following diagram:
The difference between '67 and '68 is the former had silver outer surrounds, the latter argent outer surrounds. According to the numbers you provided, you have a mish-mash of '67 and '68 grills and your "400" grilles started life as non-400's.
I did the latter myself and drilled the correct holes in a set of NOS grilles I got out of Hemmings Motor News back in 1998.
The "Pontiac" Emblem is in Parts Group 1.303 and that listing says:
9794450 for all '67 and '68 Firebirds.

I would agree the Pontiac emblem is the same across both years and models.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. I checked the first gen site. I could only find the 68 info. What I did find different than what you listed, is the PONTIAC emblem in the grille should be 9788859 for 68 400 grille.( page 5, #14, 1.303) under Parts Index, Firebird Trim Index., under Library
Yes, you are right. I did not realize the number I gave is listed as "bracket". Going back into the 1973 parts by group/number - I can't actually see a listing for the "Pontiac" emblem itself. Looks like the Trim Index is a much better source for that.
