Inherited a 68 bird my brother started restoration on. Since I did not take the car apart, I do not know what if any sealer was used by the factory for exterior emblems. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
All exterior emblems were held in place with PAL or "speed"nuts, cheap fasteners made out of sheet metal. In critical locations, the speed nuts were filled with what the factory called "dum dum" which is sold as 3M Strip Caulk. Great stuff - never dries, always sticky. Also adheres water seals to doors and seals inner kick panels.
I have found that repro houses love selling the emblems without the nuts and the nuts being tough to find by themselves. Classic Industries is about the only place that seems to sells them separately. They also come in 3 sizes and with and without the sealer.

They work fit pretty darn good Salmon! I might add that TRIM Parts is about the only place I know that actually includes these nuts with every Emblem they sell and their quality is the best I have ever seen. You get what you pay for, as theirs are slightly more expensive and look lots better and customer service is A+! I still bought me one of those kits and use those instead and have the extras just incase!
