Any recommendations? I would like to get hydraulic shocks that are not charged so much that they assist the spring in rebound. Shocks that will stay position of extension or rebound and not move out by themselves.
I have had great results with the hotchkis tuned shocks. Not much during time on them but feel and control are great. I should add they have 2 types l, the ones I'm suggesting are the ones made by fox. Believe they are called the 1.5
I'm going with the KYB excel G shocks for the front and rear. The other KYB shocks- gas adjust have awful reviews for their stiffness. The Excel seem to be a good factory replacement. I'm not racing, just street driving. PLUS- right now KYB has a "buy 4 shocks, get $40 off" http://www.kyb.com/40-for-4/

I hope you guys post the results from the shocks you try out. I was also looking for a good hyd shock and found the same thing you did. They pretty much only make gas shocks these days. I think you have to go pretty high end to get something decent. Something like QAs or such.
I ordered all 4 shocks yesterday. Total $88 and will be here tomorrow. So after the $40 mail in rebate- only a $48 gamble. I will post undated info on the ride conditions but.... that's going to be about 5 years before this 67 is drivable...

The trouble with most of the charged shocks is they extend from the pressure of the gas in the body. Some so much as to aid the springs in the support of vehicle weight. I want the shocks to dampen and the springs to support the car. Some shocks have a large plastic strap to hold the piston in in the body until they are installed. Monroe sensa-trac are listed as a replacement for our cars but they are load supporting. Good if your springs are shot I suppose. They do make an OE replacement which I'm trying to track down. I just took off a set of KYBs and put them in the circular file.
Bluebird- What style/name was the KYB scocks you tossed out?

They are the Gas-a-just. When I bounce the front of the car they will stop with the car at a certain level, I bounce the front again and the car stops at a different level. Sometimes the left higher than the right sometimes right higher than left. It could be they are great new, but I still want a shock that just dampens.
The gas adjust have terrible reviews. Hope these excel KYB i bought are better.
Good luck on the rest of your shock search

Sorry if I hurt any ones feelings. The KYB ( kill your but) shocks are horrible, these are the white ones. The silver GR2s are ok for a daily driver. I ran Bilsteins for a few years and they were a very good shock. I now have QA1 shocks and am very happy with them.
Not hurting my feelings- shocks seem to be "you get what you pay for". I'm on a tight budget, and don't have any shocks for my bird- so I figured a $45 spent on shocks was the way to go for me. Down the road if I think they are total crap, ill change them out

Thank you. I'd have to agree, can't beat that price. Up here shocks are $35-$100 each. The gas-a-just are the white ones. I've found a Monroe that may be what I'm looking for.
