1969 firebird headlight cushion alignment, how does this cushion align with fender? Do you leave a gap or press the cushion tightly against fender? My 69 assembly manual does not show this alignment very well, hard to make out drawings. I have original cushions that need paint removed from them but are still flexible, would these be better than repros.
The rubber cushion should be touching the front edge of the fenders, but not crushed. If you have a normal '69, you will find that not much lines up very well to the fenders. You should have just a little of the rubber cushion showing just past the outer edges of the fenders.
Send me a PM with your email address and I can send you a picture.
Another good thing to remove paint from rubber parts (but never plastic) is POR-15 paint stripper. It works great on rubber and will not damage it. Just spray it on, let it crinkle up and scrap it off with a plastic scraper.
