Hi I would first like to say i have read all the posts regarding hood tach issues on this site and others. I have the tach with seven wires which goes into a 3 pin plug. I also have electronic points not old style points. I have the grey wire going to the lamps connection on the fuse box (lps). I have the black wire (ground) bolted to the firewall. I have the pink/black wire with fuse that is not blown connected to the neg side of the coil.I have set up as stated in manuel. The tach lights up but the needle does not move at all. Is there something i am not doing right or would it be the tach part just does not work? Pics and help would be greatly appreciated. Bmxer
I put an pertronics style hei distributor in with external coil. It is not the original as this is a late 68 tach. Can anyone show or tell how they hooked up the wire to a pertronics distributor? I have the ground wire to firewall and the gray wire to ignition spade on fuse box. Just need to know if pink and black wire can be hooked up to pertronics some how? Is there a 1968 firebird low style tach available to hook up with this set-up? Thanks Bmxer
There may be an adapter that can work if it actually works. So many don't. Maybe someone that restores them and update it to use electronic ignition.

If you decide to get a replacement try the one Inline tube has. This unit is truly a great copy of the original. Whatever you do do not buy the tach from The Parts Place. The guy is known to be cheat and a dirt bag. You will never get any support out of him if needed. He advertises his tach as all US made, a buddy just got one, decided to open it, it has China written all over the parts, one part says "Yinh Yang, China, wires say made in china, plastic display, plastic needle, light plugs wont turn. Claims is exact copy of original!!!! I purchased one part from them years ago and gigot burned. Read all the neg. Feedbacks on ebay. They are scumballs like no other.
