What year and model or better yet part# and company are you guys changing out the factory stock power steering box to a later unit for the firmer feeling steering.
I sent my original off to have it rebuild and decided to have it upgraded to the fast ratio12.7:1 steering. I sent it to powersteering services, inc. You can have it rebuilt with fast ratio for 339.00.

I got a rebuilt unit set up for the fast ratio (12:7:1) from NAPA.

Mine is from a TA. Don't remember what year. Most will fit but the fittings are different on the newer ones. I think I lbrowsed on the napa website until I found one with the correct fittings. You need to also check how many degrees of travel it has.
Read up on this site. Go to the steering section. I used the newer box with the metric fittings and adapters and everything works perfect and I have great steering response.
In the process of a frame up restoration of my '67 and hoping for a little help on the power steering upgrade. My car came with OEM power steering and having read that mid-80's Iroc Camaro steering boxes were the one to go with I have since purchased one ('85) and returned the core. I also picked up '85 power steering pump and lines so everything would work OK together.
Yesterday I dug a little deeper and found out that there seems to be tons of variables in the setup and that even though the box is the same size and bolts on OK, the steering coupling is usually different and may require different pitman arm than stock.
Given what I have said, am I going to run into problems trying to make this work? Would the better choice be to buy a re-manufactured quick ratio box like this one and then just swap out and use all the rest of my existing parts and just buy pump and lines for a 67 model?
@salmon38 - Do you have a model / stock number for the box you got from NAPA?
after doing this upgrade in my vette a few years back... it was one of the first things I wanted to get done on my firebird... I went with borgeson... it was a perfect fit and cleared the headers no problem... HUGE difference...
The modern one you mentioned above is going to have metric hose fittings which can be a PITA. The one I got from NAPA bolted right in and connected to my new OEM hoses.

I went with a rebuilt Lee Power Steering on my Sprint. A little more money, but they do real nice work. They will also do the quick response upgrade if that is what you want.
I called Lee Power Steering and he verified for me that all I needed was a replacement rag joint to account for the different input shaft size. Got that ordered ($65) and should be here in a couple days.
Since my Firebird had factory power steering, the pitman and idler arms should work just fine with the 85 Camaro gear box (Duralast Part 6561). In the interest of keeping things simple, I ordered an 85 Camaro steering pump as well as pressure and return lines. This should let me avoid the pressure valves and adapters needed to retrofit to the 67 equipment.
With any luck, everything will bolt on OK this weekend! Thanks again for the help all! Look forward to getting to know you guys.
Another quick question! Has anyone installed an 85 power steering pump, do you have a part number on the bracket I would need to attach to the engine? Guessing a bracket off an 85 camaro would work, just haven't had a ton of luck finding one.
I've had all 3 boxes. OEM, fast ratio and finally new style resto box. Obviously the OEM is what it is. When I went to the fast ratio it felt dangerous! You cough and next thing you know your 3 lanes over. Way to sensitive and "twitchy". I combated this feeling by reducing the flow of the pump with a modified pressure valve. This simple trick gives the box more tension and a false road feel, perfect for weekend drives. This trick is not recommended but gets the job done for $20.00. Finally I went with a CCP (California Classic Performance) box. It's similar to the Delphi 600 but 1/2 the cost. Gives positive road feedback and makes her feel like a modern car.
