I would like to hear from anyone who has replaced the chrome leading edge trim on a coupe's quarter windows. What has to come out of the car before you can get at the windows? Anything to be especially careful of when removing these items? Can a glass shop replace the leading edge chrome trim or is it a DYI project? If so how do you do it? As always thanks in advance for your help. Doug
You can do them in the car. I have done two sets in the car with no problems. Pull on the chrome trim from the bottom. They will come off but you need to rock them from top to bottom. More than likely the rubber strip that will be on the window will be in rough shape. Buy new ones from NPD or who ever you like. Buy some 3M adhesive for weather stripping at the same time. Clean the edge of the window and install the adhesive in the inside of the U shaped gasket. Push onto the window and let dry for a few hours. Make note of how long the old ones were. The new ones are longer than they need to be. I use Dawn dish soap or silicone spray to lubricate the inside edges of the chrome trim. Tap on with a plastic hammer from top to bottom.
On a related note, what is the quarter glass weather stripping called? Is it weather stripping or felt? I've been trying to find a part number or kit, but haven't been sure what exactly to order since I'm not sure which kits include it or if it has to be ordered on it's own. Mine looks like dried spaghetti at this point.
Also I've used windex to get rubber parts on. Works great with motorcycle and bicycle grips too.
Gracias. That's perfect. With so many molding pieces, I'm never sure what's what or if a complete kit includes the odd ball 1/4 window molding. Thanks a bunch.
