Finally trying to convert my car from drum to discs in the front and ordered the right stuff kit for 14 inch rims. Well I got the drum brakes off, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the backing plate off. The instructions say to just remove the anchor pin, but it doesn't have a nut head or anything on it. I can't figure out if it's just pressed on or what. I've given it some good smacks with a hammer and nothing. Am I missing something obvious? Any help would be great. Thanks.
Ok I tool a look at my restoration pictures. There was a bolt in the front that screw into the spindle. Since that has been removed and the other two bolts, you should be able to just knock it look with a rubber dead blow hammer. The anchor is just pushed into the backing plate and barely into the spindle.
I've given it some good whacks with a hammer, but I'll try some more. The backing plate is loose, but that [censored] anchor pin just won't relent.
This kit is for 14" rims and uses the stock drum spindles. If I can't get the pin out I might as well just order a kit that comes with new spindles. the kit is right stuff detailing afxdc14. I know a lot of guys on here recommended them so I thought it was a no brainer. I should have known my firebird would have other plans.
