Looking for a late 68 dated coded (on rivet) bumper jack for my 69 convertible. Do not need the base plate or tier iron but if they are included I will consider. No major rust or pitting but surface rust is okay. If you have any leads as to where I might find one is would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mark,

I was digging out some other parts tonight and came across these two jacks. I remember the blue one being from a '68 and the black one a '67 but I'm not sure. From pictures posted on the site I believe the blue one is a '68. I'm not sure what the black one is. There is nothing stamped on the rivet of either jack. There is a U70 stamped on the base and a large U stamped on the case of the blue jack.
I don't know if you found a jack or if one of these fits your application. Both of these will ultimately end up for sale but I like to identify them first. When I did a bumper jack search I found your post. Can you help identify?

Dennis,

Thank you for thinking of me and that yes I am still looking for a correct bumper jack for my 69 FB Oct68 build)

The black colored jack is most likely a Camaro and you can see subtle differences in them. As for the blue one it see,s to have the lighter color which is significant of 2nd Gen FB's but that doesn't mean that it is one. From all of the examples I have seen they all had the stamp on the rivet. Typically it is a two digit code giving the year with one number and then a letter indicating the month. The blue one has a 8 stamped into it which seems odd. What is the length (in inches) of each jack shaft?

ETA: The black one looks to be from a A-body style car as the shaft looks to be thicker. Typically when looking at the shaft there will be two lines creased down the center which that one has. F-body cars had a thinner and light shaft.

Hi Marc,

Thanks for looking. The length of the blue jack shaft is 35 13/16" Length of the black jack shaft is 34 5/16"
Many years ago I owned a '70 Bonneville convertible (sweeeet car, second owner, every option except the trunk release... I knew the buyer. Would have gotten the trunk release if he had known it was an option) and a '70 Catalina convertible (odd combination, 400, Three on the Tree with gauges...) I guess the heavier jack might have come from one of those??

As for the blue one. I have no idea what it was from. It surely came from a car I owned but I can't even recall all the cars I've owned so remembering the jack isn't going to happen. If anyone can shed some light on what they are I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Thanks,

Wish I could help you with a part Marc, but at least I can add to the knowledge base. My 68, which is original, does not have a date stamp on the rivet and has a large "U" on the base. Length is just about 35 1/2". It was an early production 68 model, so maybe they started stamping the rivets later in the year. Clearly, safety issues were accelerating in 68 and maybe that has something to do with date-identifying those parts. Who knows for sure? I do know that my convertible did not require shoulder belts, but later in the year they did. Also, I'm sure GM had a number of suppliers, which may account for some inconsistencies.

Interesting. Well my search and education continues as I still have yet to find a jack. I am still looking for a bumper jack that should have date codes on it but if it doesn't and it is in good shape I will be willing to look at it. Send me an me a message with your contact info if you have a 68/69 bumper jack
