Finally giving up on my tired old power drums and want to do the disc conversion. Would like to hear from folks that have recently done this to include where the kit was purchased, do's and don'ts, lessons learned, etc. Thanks in advance!

I used original fronts and bought a rear kit from a friend that got it with a car he bought. It was for a Camaro so there was couple of extra parts I had to buy to make it work on my BOP 8.2. I have to say customer service was excellent form SSBC. Got what I needed and I think the guy even sent me a couple of things n/c.

SSBC? Okay, I'll do some research on them.

I used a kit from "the Right Stuff." They are all over on Ebay. Much cheaper than SSBC, and came with EVERYTHING I needed to do the swap including the new master cylinder, proportioning valve etc. It went together very nicely, however they supply 1969 front rubber hoses since the kit uses the single piston style caliper, so I ended up using early 70's Monte Carlo front hoses that fit perfect (I cant remember the year I used but its on here in another thread). Just another option. Car stops great.

Yeah, I went with the Right stuff 14" wheel kit. I got it on summit for pretty cheap. You can use the drum brake spindles, but be prepared for a fight getting out the anchor pin. Actually, after using a big pipe wrench it came out pretty easy. The fit an finish are good, but they are an old design single piston floating caliper. I can't say how well it stops since I'm still in the throws of installing new brake lines. The kit did come with the wrong wheel bearings, but summit quickly shipped me out some replacements. If you don't want to change the spindles and don't mind single piston calipers Right Stuff is good. If you want more aggressive stopping power I might check out some of the other big brake kits.

X2 what J-Gregs said!! Right stuff has some good stuff. Just find what you need there and copy down the part numbers and head over to Summit and you can usually find the right stuff items there for cheaper. I know they have that good 14" wheel kits there but I didnt use it since my car came from the factory with disk brakes, but I have used all brand new brake parts from right stuff (got them cheaper from Summit) to rebuild my whole suspension. I know a few folks who have used the same kit that J-Gregs listed and they have had no complaints about it.

I have SSBC power disc with adj valve on all 4 corners for the 68...very nice..

I have a complete set of 68 Firebird 4 piston calipers, new correct rotors, spindles, backing plates...brackets, bearings, dust caps..and pads. Complete set.

For the 14" kits, will they work with 14x6 wheels or do I need 14x7's ? Thanks
