I'm unable to see in the tube how the origonal shifter button is attached to the flexible rod thru the tube. Button connection part (small slot) looks fine. Button started popping off a year ago under spring pressure. Do I have to take out the rod, attach button and reinstall? thank you.
No. You can just reinstall the spring and then pop the button back on. But in your case it is most likely the button is too worn to pop back on. You might need a repop shifter button. Another thing that works is to use aluminum foil as a shim. Caution: I had to use the foil as a shim to keep the new repop button to stay on
