Drove my bird into work yesterday to show the guys. High beams normal for about 20 seconds, then they go into a crazy "flashing" cycle, all 4 turning on and off, just not at the same time. Switched to low beams and the right side goes dark. Haven't tried any trouble shooting yet, though this is one I don't think I have ever heard of.
Definitely start with the dimmer switch. I've had them short out and nearly catch the carpet on fire. Not good. Just replace it for good measure. Even if it's still good at least then you'll have a spare.
also check all the connections on your charging system. Mine did a similar thing @ idle but when you sped it up it went away. Just ended up being poor connections.
Thanks Robert and Neill, I'll look into a new dimmer switch and replacing the right hi/low beam light. I thought the same thing when it first happened(idle) but when it happened under a load Now to find a lamp that throws a yellow tint.
OK, think I might have figured this out. All four headlights are halogen conversions. Outside lights are hi/low and insides are hi(checked the service manual to be sure) Unplugged the right hi/low(found out the housing was busted up), turned the lights on hi and waited for about a minute. No flashing Now I just need to pick up a new housing and yellow halogen bulb and I should be good to go. Will most likely change out the dimmer switch at the same time, only another $10. Pretty cheap insurance.
is it only me or do other wonder why sometimes the most important item is always left out?
If I had trouble with halogen conversions headlights, i think that should have been mentioned in the first question when it comes to trying to trouble shoot them.
Well, I've only had the car for 2 weeks and didn't know they were conversions until today. I've had halogens go out on other cars and never had the flashing experience. They would either work or not.
