Hey guys I have a bit of a noob question. My car has a re-pop instrument cluster panel and a re-pop dash pad. I've tried searching like crazy for the answer to this question. Is there some type of J-clip that attaches to the dash pad so that the instrument panel has something to screw into? I have went to hardware stores looking for something that is big enough to clip to the inside of the dash pad but I can not find anything. The holes in the instrument panel do not line up to the holes in the dash pad, so as of right now, the instrument panel is just screwed straight into the dash pad which is awful. There is not a metal strip inside the pad for the screws to hold onto either. Very frustrating!

I am still not sure what you are asking, but take a look at this link and tell me if your dash pad has 4 holes about the same size or shape as the one in the second pic in this link. http://mprime.com/ProjectFirebird/FB09-interior.htm These require a special clips, and this link http://www.ecklersfirebird.com/firebird-dash-pad-corner-attachment-clips-1968.html has some that are used on the corners, but I cant rememebr what is used on the top of the dash bezal to attach to the dash pad.

Thanks for your help! I would attach a picture to better describe the screws but I don't have the rights to do that yet I guess. I think these might actually work USMC. I would have to drop the dash bezel to check the holes again but I do think they are the same. The pre drilled holes in the re-pop dash bezel do not line up with the holes in the dash pad though. If I have to, I will just drill new holes that line up. Luckily you cant see it unless you are in the floor board looking up.

Can anyone confirm these clips are the ones needed? It makes sense that they come in a 5 pack.

Guessing NO ONE has ever pulled and replaced their 69 dash bezel (I find that hard to believe) to be able to answer if these are used to connect the dash to the dash pad???? HELP!!!

Yes and no.
They use a fastener like that, but its been a few years since I had that apart, and those fasteners come in many different sizes.
You can see them in a couple of these pics.

Thanks guys for going out of your way to help me with this. I went ahead and ordered these plastic pieces and plan to drop the bezel this weekend to see if it will work. I will let you know how it turns out!

YES!! Please let us know how they work. I wil have to do this also down the road since my car is undergoing a restroration, so I will have to use the same thing or try and find them, but doesnt look like there is anything out there except for those. Make sure to post some pics also of those inserted into the dash. Thanks!

Thanks to Lee for posting the pics.... if I explode those pics you posted, it sure looks like the same thing for the most part. They are attached to the underside of the dash pad, but what keeps them from pulling out when you put the screws into it while attaching the dash bezel?

You can see the back side of one in this pic. they go thru the metal frame of the dash, when you put a screw in them they expand like any screw anchor which seems to make them hold tight well enough.

I seem to recall having to have to go to AMES GTO catalog to find those pieces. For some reason no one lists them as a Firebird part.
I think this is the right one. Part # A259W

Thanks Lee, that sounds about right as the ones listed on ebay are shown for a GTO as well, but once you view the whole listing they show that they are compatable for Firebird also. And sure enough, just checked AMES and they are listed under the 69 GTO/Lemans as dash nylon attaching nuts...... DASH NYLON ATTACHING NUTS LINK

I posted this on another thread, that if you have a 1969 re-pop dash pad, the metal frame is not present. So the plastic inserts wont work, they have nothing to grab onto. The fix is to place a strip of metal behind the pad and screw that to the pad. Then drill holes matching up to the instrument carrier and screw the dash carrier to the metal strip capturing the dash-pad between them .
