Let's face it, the Rally 2 wheel is great for our 1st Gens. But tire and suspension tech have evolved such that the old Rally 2's are practically obsolete if you plan to drive your car "enthusiastically". There are a couple of options for larger Rally 2's (Year One and Wheel Vintiques come to mind). In my opinion the Year One versions are the closest to the real thing in appearance and they are quite reasonably priced. However, the back-spacing is not optional on these wheels (4.5†on the 17†by 8â€, and 5†on the 17†by 9â€). We all know it’s a hell of a lot easier to adjust for a little extra back-spacing on your wheel and darn near impossible to deal with too little back-spacing.
The easiest solution, in my opinion, is for Year One to start making these wheels with a couple of different back-spacing options. I called them and asked, but they weren't interested.
For the 17†by 8â€, let’s add 5†and maybe 5.5â€.
Any other ideas?
Year One, are you listening?
If enough of us are into this, I’m sure they will listen.
Attached is a picture of one of the Year One Rally 2's that I recently purchased.
I would like to have a set of 17 x 8 Rally II wheels to clear my C5 front disk brakes and maintain original track width with no spacers. I am not sure what back spacing is needed to accomplish this. I did not know that Rally II's were available now in 17", so I will do some math to see if the Year One wheels will do what I want. SD
