Hey guys I have a bit of a noob question. My car has a re-pop instrument cluster and a re-pop dash pad. I've tried searching like crazy for the answer to this question. Is there some type of J-clip that attaches to the dash pad so that the instrument cluster has something to screw into? I have went to hardware stores looking for something that is big enough to clip to the inside of the dash pad but I can not find anything. The holes in the instrument panel do not line up to the holes in the dash pad, so as of right now, the instrument panel is just screwed straight into the dash pad which is awful. There is not a metal strip inside the pad for the screws to hold onto either. Very frustrating!
My current dash pad is re-pop too. The re-pops don't have the metal frame support like the originals. So the plastic inserts have nothing to grab onto. My fix was to screw a metal strip behind the re-pop dash pad, then drill holes into the strip where the dash carrier screws to the dash pad. It seems to be holding fine. You can buy a 2 foot length of steel or aluminum for just a few bucks at Home Depot.
Many here don't care for the re-pop dashes. i have to agree, i now have a few original dash cores, I'm going to send one out to just dashes to get re-covered. The re-pops don't fit , have no steel support and look crappy no matter what you do.
