There are new gas caps for sale in the sale section for 69 firebirds. I've seen the same caps for sale on ebay too. They are all GM and say their right for 69 FB. These caps are short body with molded knubs 180 degrees apart. Our old cap has a deep body. It has tabs on top that seem to be rivited on ,its always been on the car and I believe it to be original.
Am I right that the cap we have is correct?

In 1969, Pontiac made a running production line change to the Firebird gas tank, and they went from non-vented to a vented cap. If you have the deep collar cap, you have the non-vented setup, which would be the system where the vent pipe runs from the filler neck up through the trunk pan, and back out.
The short collared cap is for the vented gas tank, which they began using some time after January 1969.
