I am looking at getting a car cover and here are my criteria. 1. weather resistant since I plan to take it on weekend trips and want to protect against rain, tree sap etc when parked outside for a few days. (live in Ohio so there are storms, wind, rain, etc during the summer) 2. layered to provide some "cushion" protection for when in the garage, 3. reasonable price $200-$250??? 4. Fitted pretty good so that is is not all saggy
Any recommendations? Thanks 68 convertible if that makes a difference
I personally don't like car covers. Have used them for 20+ years and probably spent $1k on them. Cheap, expensive, flannel lined, rain resistant, breathable, UV rays, blah, blah. They are all a PITA to put on, hard to wash/keep clean and within 2 years they rip. I use a duster and a good wax to keep the car clean and easy to keep dust off. My buddy sells high end classic cars and he uses the cheap clear plastic covers to keep off debris and dust if it helps.
Just remember that on your weekend trips if there is a heavy dew or rain you now have a very wet car cover that you have to take with you. It will not dry in the trunk and if you are gone for a couple of days it can start to get pretty funky sitting in the trunk, more-so if you factor in summer heat. I used a car cover once on a 3-4 day trip and never again!
both good points, I go to a lake cottage over the summer and frequently have pop up storms, and have several trees with all kids of sap and debris, so if I do want to take my car, I will have to use a cover, My boat cover is a material that really repels the moisture and is kind of a hybrid vinyl type material. Not overly concerned if it does get damp, I will either let it dry out before I leave or after three hour drive home it would be laid out to dry. Thanks for brining up points I may not have considered.
I bought three or four cheap, blue, nylon ones for my cars about 35 years ago. They have faded a bit, but other than that, they still look and feel like new. I've gone through a couple of the 'new style' felt, mulit-layer ones now, and they only last about a year before they start to disintegrate and rip apart. I just tossed another one last week.
If anyone knows where to get the cheap, blue, nylon ones, I'd love to buy a couple more of them. I googled the name on the label, and nothing came up.
They are also really easy to toss in the washing machine and then hang dry in the sun in about 15 minutes.
As a side comment, the nylon ones are NOT waterproof or completely dust proof, but they are durable and last a long time. For dust proof over winter, I lay a tarp over the top of the covers.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. Call California Car Covers, tell them what you need a cover for and they will set you up. I like their Noah or Evolution types.
