When i purchased my 69 it came with 2 centerlinks. I am in the process of sandblasting front suspension/steering parts. When i grabbed on of the centerlinks to blast it i noticed that it looks slightly different than the other one i have. Now im not sure which one is the correct centerlink for the car. Im sure their both from a 69. Were there different centerlinks depending on engine? One appears to have more of an angle to it as it comes off the pitman arm. Which one is correct for a 400 engine? Any help greatly appreciated.
Well i guess i should say im not really 100% sure of anything so i suppose its possible. Guess i will just have to go with one and hope its the right one.
I believe that Birds and Camaros have different length tie rod assemblies. So it would follow that the one with longer tie rods (bird?) would have the holes closer together. Is there a difference in the spacing of the tie rod holes?
Scott, I must have been tying my last post when you were as i didnt see your response yet. I had a feeling their might be 2 different for 6 vs 8cyl. Now i just have to figure out which is which...i will get some pics of both and post. Hopefully you guys can tell me which one i need for 8cyl. The best way to describe them is one has more of an angle on both ends.
Ok i took a few pics of both centerlinks. Since im not sure how to post pics right in the thread youll have to click on my 69 Firebird link in my sig to see them. As you can see i took one pic of both side by side and then a seperate pic of both. As you can probably tell it looks like #1 has a bit more of an angle at the ends. Both measure 29" in length...so maybe it doesnt matter. If anyone can tell me anything from the pics please let me know. Thanks guys.
My 69 350 with p/s had the same one as the bottom one in your picture. I recently looked at another subframe that was removed from a 69 and it had straighter one like the top photo, but I don't know what engine it had.
