I have ignition switch lamp listed on my PHS doc, does anyone have any info around this or any pictures of theirs or others that might have it installed? Found this in a search in FGF:

Ok, I got some more info, the bulb goes in the dash and illuminates just the switch itself.. I am tracking down a part number and have a guy calling me, thinks he might have what I need.

I mistakenly put column in the original post Jim. I have heard it is located in the dash and illuminates around the switch. Hopefully this guy can shed some more light on this when I can reach him.

AHA- you are on to something there Jim. Thanks much for that ! I will confirm this with the guy when I talk to him. Makes perfect sense though. I appreciate the search
I wonder how many birds were ordered with this, think it's a rare option?
Anybody have it?

Does anyone have the ignition lamp? I am wondering if there is a ring on the outside of the dash that goes around the switch that lets the light pass through it to illuminate the switch.
Any pictures or info is appreciated.

Thanks Jim! Iinteresting. [censored] that binding LOL
Does it list if 42 is a special item for the fiber optic to shine through or not? I am trying to figure out how the light gets around the switch. Wondering if the switch bezel was different somehow.

42 appears to be a common ferrule to all '68 Tempest bodies according to the group 2.192.
It looks to me that the part 49 is more likely the ring that illuminates to switch. While 48 (the light guide) appears for the Tempests in the '72 parts book, I do not find that 49 bracket. Neither show up for the Firebird.
Ok, thanks Jim. I appreciate the help! I actually found a set last night. Trying to make sure I have all the parts. Hard to find.

Ok, I have to retract my info, as a member on PY has enlightened me with his experience and knowledge of these fiber optics for the Mid body styles like the GTO/ Lemans and small body style Firebird. (Thank you Guppypuppy2!!) Just when a guy thinks his research is complete... Apoogies for the miss..
He has provided the pictures as well below:
So it turns out that the fiber optics like I purchased are indeed for big body cars only with multiple applications. (Hence the light bulb housing)
For the smaller cars, the fiber optic cable for the ignition or ash tray is basically mounted to a bulb in the back of the instrument cluster on a special bracket.
For the ignition, the cable is secured to the ring that fits around the switch, and the fiberoptic actually sits in a hole in the side of the switch. The light then shines into the cylinder and illuminates the key hole itself.
The ashtray fiberoptic mounts to the back of the cluster as well, and mounts to the tray slide.
He also mentioned that the 67's were different- they did use a bulb for illumination, with the same style of ring as a mount for it.
I want to put this info here as well as PY for anyone who needs it in the future.

Can we do a roll call? If your bird has ash tray lighting sound off, and if you have the ignition light with it call that out as well.
I don't see the ashtray light called out on the PHS doc anywhere, so maybe it is.. There is the ignition light called out though. How it works is you would get in the car, pull the light switch out to the first notch and that would illuminate the instrument panel and the key hole for you.

Ok, I got some news from the shop today, He found my original ignition switch light in a box of parts I had.
It is a bulb, on the ring that encircles the switch, but the wire goes over to the fuse panel and hooks to a fuse that is hot when the lights are pulled on.
Since my car was a late 67 build for 68, maybe this was an early version of how they lit them up prior to fiber optics? Maybe they were using up the remaining inventory of these.
Does anyone have a 67 or 68 bird with a lit ignition switch?

Hello, so where exactly does the ash tray light go? Mine has the light ground connected to the top of the ash tray frame (as in a previous picture on this topic), with the approx. 8" lead with the twist type bulb and socket, but I don't see anyplace it can go?? Thanks for any help, Jeff
It goes into the back of the cluster. Far right bottom bulb or top bulb. Can't remember which one but either will work. As seen in this photo that was posted in the last page.
That light ground you say is the fibre optic wire. That end is where it glows or emits light into the ash tray.
So this is a "lamp" and NOT an fiber optic cable? Wow, did a lot of research on this while back and thought only A body cars came with the ignition light....

I have a 69, had the dash out an found the fiber cable with a mount to the ash tray coming off the cluster bulb but the mount on the ash tray broke so never could get it back to the way it was.
