Hi, I just purchased a 1967 Firebird 400 convertible. It's in pieces and I want to put it back to original configuration. The body is red, the interior is custom black and the top is white (ivory). The car originally came with a rally strip. My questions are .. . . is the rally strip white to match the top? I've seen a picture of a white top and a white rally strip and it looks good. Also, when I get a boot cover would I go White or Black to match the interior?
Thanks in advance for any advice. Shawn

Boot color would match the interior. 400 'birds did not come with rally stripes.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. This may help. It is for 68 but it may apply. The rally stripe was available on any model except the 350 HO. Craig may be thinking of the HO stripe which was only on the 350 HO and not the 400 HO.
Yes, I was thinking 350 HO stripe. But I also was not aware of the standard 400 possibility of a stripe.
I've never seen one. Must be pretty darn rare.
Good catch Harold.

Welcome aboard Shawn, you will find friendly folks and a wealth of info here. That said, if you want to put your bird back the way she came, you need to get your PHS docs. http://phs-online.com Cal

I was unaware of this as well. This statement is vague "The Firebird H.O. has similar lower body stripes as standard equipment." I have heard the 400HO has never had stripes on it, but this does not call it out as being standard on a 350 HO only.

Yes the 350 ho stripe was standard but there was a delete option on the Oder form. I always heard the rally stripe was available on all the other models. I've seen pictures of the 400 with the rally stripes but not that many. Matter fact I have not seen the stripe on many models at all.
Here are some picture from a couple 68 magazine articles from 68. Both showing the rally stripe on 400 firebirds. The first one is a ram air convertible and the other is a 400 HO car.
The 400 ram air stripes are different. I never seen them all the way on the front of the fender like it show. The 400 HO car is what I've seen
Whatever you do, don't put them on crooked like that first shot of the red car... bleah!

I think I found this here or on a Craigslist ad. Owner noted rally stripe from factory. I think the ad mentioned PHS also.

I dont have my PHS with me at the moment, Harold- does yours show a place for a rally stripe to be listed? It must be optional because Jim2002 has never said his came from the factory with any striping, and I have never heard Banshee say his has any, and his is pretty stock otherwise.. Not exactly sure about the paint though..

Strip is a option not standard. It is item 494 Which state standard for 344 which is the 350 HO. There is also a delete HO Side Strips - 344 only that is item 491
Just so you understand when you choose this option it is rally stripes not HO strips.
It's a little interesting that the magazine pics show the stripes going full length when the production models had the stripes only between the wheel wells.
The car in question was a 68 ram air convertible. It had 900 miles on the car. It was at Royal Pontiac and was soon to acquire the bobcat package but at test time it was just as it had left the assemble line.
Maybe that was bobcat pins tripping that had already been added.?
As I study the image more....it already has a royal bobcat badge and a black out tail panel. The pin striped probably added as well.
In this image it show what comes standard on each model. Here is shows the 350 HO comes standard with the stripes.
I ordered my PHS docs last week. There is a code stamped on the plate on the engine cowl that shows it had the rally stripe, which I have found is not the HO stripe. I think is was a $40 option back then. I've seen a picture of another firebird with it and it just goes between the wheel wells. Thanks for all the info. And I will try and not put the stripe on crooked :-)
