it is verdero green with black interior, with split bench seat, it has a 400/4 speed. but it has the flat hood. Did they make 400 cars with a flat hood? thanks guys, this is my first post look forward to talking to yall alot in the future.
Welocme to the best site for your firebird! To answer your question, 400 cars came with the hood with scoops. How do you know it is a 400/4 speed? The car may have the combo but may not be a true 400 car or the 400 hood was swapped out at some time for a standard hood. You can get PHS documents to determine if it is a true 400 car (as well as all the original options that came with your car) for $35

Nice to hear of another FGF owner just down the street from San Antonio.
I'm not too sure on the '68, but I was lead to believe all 400 optioned vehicles came with the hood from the factory. Now what happened at the local dealerships is another story.
But I'm sure someone else here can set you straight, or worst case scenario, you can order the PHS documentation on your car.
Hey, if yer ever in San Antonio, let me know, we've got a couple of really nice Pontiac folks here that love to talk cars.
i went and looked at it today in kerrville, it is definitley a 400 with a 4 speed and the original paint is still on the car and the hood is still green so i guess someone swapped in a 400/4speed at some point. i probably wont mess with swapping the hood.
Welcome. The 400's all got the hood scoop hood. As a quick check, are some of the other 400 signs there? Is there a 400 emblem on the trunk lid? Do the front grills have chrome "hocky stick" shaped pieces? If it is not air conditioned, are there two metal baffles between the bumper and radiator support? Does the front bumper have a rubber-like Pontiac arrow emblem in the center? If not, it was possibly not a 400 originally. To be sure, you can get the original build record at PHS. Jim

I just got into these firebirds last year, and I'm on my way to learning a ton more - but here are some things that struck me as odd on the pictures from ebay:
Carb looks small - a 2bbl? Valve cover has filler cap on passenger side of engine (instead of driver's side). Driver's mirror is round shaped, not square (early '68?).
Looks like a vinyl top? Be prepared to find rust under the top if you get that far into the restoration.
The car certainly shows potential - good luck with the restoration!
Edit: it seems that some of the body panels may have been replaced in the past (?), so I wouldn't be surprised if the old hood was tossed in favor of another one - taken from a 350 car.
