Any specific recommendations for painting the dash / glove box on a 68? Color is black. It has never been repainted. I would prefer using a rattle can, as I have had good success before on the under-hood items. What brand names have worked best for you and best match the original sheen? Thanks.

I had a local body shop mix my dash color for my 69 in PPG lacquer. I used a preval sprayer which is available at Ace Hardware. The Preval is much like using a rattle can. You will need to thin the lacquer a bit more than recommended. The Preval also lets you add a fisheye eliminator which I would recommend since dashboards are often treated with a product containing silicon that promotes fish eyes. I would check the sheen levels on top of the dash and on the face. On my green dash there is a flatter formula for the top than the face. Hope this helps

Thanks Doug. I appreciate the information. Never heard of a preval sprayer, but I'll definitely check it out. I also found that there is an auto paint store nearby that can not only mix the paint per GM code, but also put it into a rattle can, properly thinned. Really convenient for short-run items, such as this. The level of gloss is the important thing to make it look right.
Thanks again. Bill

When I did mine my painter told me to just use the vinyl dye, as it was lacquer. It came out great

I have been using rustolium for black dashes. I mix gloss and flat to get the correct gloss and mix in a hardener and thinning with acetone to spray out of a gun.

Thanks Wade and Chief. As far as easily found, off-the-shelf stuff, I've had prettty good results in the past with Rustoleum Universal Satin Paint and Primer in One (Satin Black) on some of the under hood items. Goes on and levels well and has a good sheen. I like that it is its own primer. Whatever I wind up doing this spring, I'll update results.
