I'm putting my engine back together and I have these two bolts left that were in a bag marked Starter. I can't figure out where they go. They are greasy from top to bottom. Any ideas?
Like everyone else I can't tell the dia. from the picture but I can see that the ruler shows that they are very close to 3" long. That is the same as the early non EGR valley tray bolts and much shorter than the stated length of the starter bolts @ 4 21/32s. I think that the later EGR motors do use two different length bolts for the valley tray.I know that GM has at least 3 lengths of starter bolts for different apps. and they are all knurled just above the threads, these don't appear to be knurled.
Hey, Hey, Hey, I'm the dummy that wrote starter on the bag three years ago, give me a break! They are not starter bolts, the new starter is installed. I think they might be valley pan bolts. I was going to build the engine back up myself, I took it apart and to the machine shop, but decided to let the machine shop go ahead and put it back together. Of course, they didn't have these bolts, so they used something else (cringe). The GM parts catalog says they are 5/16-18-2 but the Classic Industry catalog shows a bolt similar to what I have. I think they are the Valve cover push rod bolts. Thanks for the responses! I really appreciate the help.
