Being doing some research on the correct custom simulated plastic wood steering wheel for 67-68 birds
1. Research suggests that originals should have at the rear of the spokes 4 rivets? I am not sure? Some repops are showing 3 rivets? 2. I have seen other wheels with no rivets at the rear- perhaps these are the repops? I am not sure? or these may be for the GTO'S? 3. I understand that the front of the spokes (firebirds) are a brushed finished appearance? in 68? Where they also brushed finish for 67? 4. Was the 67-68 wood wheel specific for the firebirds- or did other Pontiacs- (eg GTO) share the exact same wheel? size? 5. If anyone has an original on their bird..........................and can provide a photo- including behind the spokes, this will also help in the research. I am trying to verify the differences in the wood gto wheels of 65,66,67,68,69 and those for the 67-68 firebirds. Any information would be greatly appreciated............
Hoping to get others opinions and facts regarding the matter. thanks everyone.....................
Here is a pic of the front of an original 67. Sorry, do not have the car available to get a shot of the backside of it. As you can see it has a brushed finish with polished edges. Cal Edit, I had a pic selected but had to reduce to the size of a postage stamp and it was still being rejected for being too large a file. Maybe they are having problems this morning with the picture part.
I believe all three years had different depths, 67 being the deepest, 69's being the shallowest, 68 in between.

67 wheels bright chrome. Fed regulations made them change to non bright in 68. Same with the vert windshield header. Birds and goats used the same wood wheels.
ok gentleman.......... heres some pictures of two different wheels..................
I have 3 others that I will pull out in the next few days..........
The dark painted wheel has 4 rivets at the rear, is larger and deeper- has thinner spokes at the top were it meets the rim, The light brown wheel has no rivets at the rear is smaller in depth and diameter than the darker wheel and spokes are slightly where it meets the rim Both wheels have brushed spokes.as opposed to polished. Are they GTO wheels? firebird wheels? Anyone with their opinion?
