I just got my new fuel tank but before I install it, I have a couple of questions.
the tank has an oily film on it. do I need to clean that off with degreaser or can I leave it alone? im thinking it would make a good moisture barrier but Im not sure. and, do need to have an anti-squeak pad for the top side of the tank where it sits against the car or just the squeak pads on the metal straps?
Oily film, yes good for protection, also an excellent magnet for dirt. Your choice. If you decide to remove it, lacquer cleaner would work well.
Anti-squeek strips go on both the top and bottom of the tank. I found tacking them down with upholstery cement helped to keep them in place when wrestling with the tank.
