Hello all. I have learned a tremendous amount from this forum and the great people on here. However, I am stumped now. This part has hoses on it and leaks antifreeze. Can't figure out what it is. I know it's probably something simple and I will wear my dunce cap. Thanks in advance.
You must have a '69. I heard they added it to AC equipped '69s to shut off the coolant flow to the heater core when the AC was turned on. Wish it had been on the '68s. I don't use the AC now because I like the top down but back in my daily driver days, the AC never was very efficient. Cutting off the flow to the heater core might have helped a little.
How it works? Like a hose bibb on the side of your house. Except instead of turning the knob to off and on, it is controlled by the vacuum pod and the heater controls on the dash. I believe there are two types of the vacuum pods. One style will be *open* allowing hot water to flow when there is no vacuum to it; the other will be *closed* - meaning no flow until the vacuum opens the valve. Cal
Thanks all. Yes I have a 1969 convertible 400 with A/C. The part has stopped leaking yesterday when I checked, however, looks like it needs to be replaced. Thanks again everyone!
Make sure that it has not stopped leaking because your coolant level is too low! Also, this is not the place to use stop leak. Come to think of it, there are not any places where you should use stop leak - unless an emergency in the middle of no-where perhaps... Cal
