I've pulled the instrument cluster out far enough to check a few bulbs (speedo and fuel) and they're good, fuse is good. A separate temp gauge light that is tapped off the green light switch wire lights and dims properly, and the courtesy lamps come on when switch is rotated all the way. Where is my problem...help please!?
Thanks JamesM, I put an ohmmeter on one of the screws that connected with the printed circuit board and to the dash and it showed good continuity, so it seem to be grounded good. Or is that not a good test? Where did you attach to the instrument cluster or circuit board to add grounds, anywhere on the metal around the speedometer and fuel/idiot lights cluster? Appreciate any help. I'm at a loss!
I see that Pete67400 is on line. Don't know how to reach him but hope he catches this. His Hall of Fame A/C stuff proved absolutely invaluable to me in my work on my 69 w/factory air. Thank you if you get this.
My 67 has a ridged wire ground that connects to the center screw that holds the cluster in. So if u take screws out to move the cluster u need to ground that wire while ur testing.
the 69 must be different. you don't have a way to remove the actual cluster like that, it all comes out as a dash front assy. I'll look again but I think not. thanks! Tork
Thanks to all, found the ground strap , finally, that runs from the instrument cluster to the lighter, to the radio and finally connects to the dash just to the left of the glove box. You need to remove the large duct going up to the defroster to get at it. It is a thin piece of metal that provides a ground all along the dash. I added an additional ground wire to the strap also. I have dash lights, not real bright but still no speedo light, just a little bleed over from the other one. Oh well, hands are so cut up that is enough. Thanks again everyone for the help. Tork
