Does the front end wiring all run behind the two inner fender to fender bolts or does it all stay visible on the engine side of these two bolts? I've seen photos of it both ways.
'67 and '68 wiring diagrams show the front light harness running over the top of the driver's side inner fender so not visible as it runs from the firewall to the radiator support.

I researched this several years ago and concluded that both routings are probably correct. If I recall, most were within the engine compartment. In fact, a couple different engine side routings appear to have been used.
Here are three originals:

I don't know how the temp switch, alternator and the idle stop solenoid wiring would have reached there respective position if the harness was behind the inner fender....original harness that hasn't been hacked up...at least those circuits.

On a '68 RA original owner fully restored here, the cable runs within the fender and those wires emerge in front of the wheel, about even with the back of the alternator. I suspect it is not the original harness.
There are two separate wiring harnesses under the hood, the forward light harness and the engine harness. The former is shown over the inner fender and reaches the alternator via the extreme left front of the engine bay. The engine harness contains the connections for the idle stop solenoid, the temp switch, the coil, and the oil pressure indicator. The engine harness drapes over the engine via two branches - one to the drivers side of the carb, the 2nd over the wiring gutter to the rear passenger side of the engine.
