Hello I am new to the forum. I have a question about the 68 Deluxe Steering Wheel.
Was there two versions of the Deluxe Steering Wheel in 1968?
I know the Deluxe Steering Wheel was exclusive to 68s only and I was thinking about restoring mine but i noticed there is two different ones. One seems to have a larger metal plate in the back and one seems to have a smaller plate.

I posted 2 links and if you look at the back of the steering wheel you will notice two different versions. I have seen few photos of each version. Did both these versions come out in 68?

I looked through all the pictures I've collected over the years, and I agree. There must have been two styles.

I have 60+ pictures, and I'd say 80% are the larger plate, and about 20% the smaller one.

I've never noticed that before. Thanks for pointing it out. They are all '68 deluxe wheels, so they must have had two versions.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.

Looks great! White over red is a nice combo.

Calibird- new info! Thanks for posting that. I have the red interior as well with the deluxe wheel. I like the white / red combo as well- sharp!

I have red/red w/ white soft top.

Interesting. Don't know which version my red deluxe wheel is. I know that when I took my car in for service when it was about two years old, the service manager saw that the wheel was cracking so he got me a new one under warrantee which has since cracked over the years. Wonder if the second version was an attempt to fix the cracking issue?

I'm the owner of the deluxe wheel in the 2nd picture with the smaller plate. This steering wheel was re-casted and maybe the new black epoxy is covering some of it. Not sure but maybe that is why it looks smaller. However the metal plate does look slightly different.

Welcome dude...

The appears to be a plate on the bottom of some of the wheels. See my pics...

thanks guys. I'm not sure which one I have either. I haven't worked up the courage to take it off yet.
maybe they did create a replacement wheel like Jim said.

I clicked on your links. you have a beautiful car Harold.
I have seen a lot of nice cars on here and hope to get there some day. I will probably just enjoy the one I have and work on getting a 400 in the future.
