Hey I recently put a '71 pontiac 350 in a '67 firebird. I also replaced the power glide with a mid 70s TH350.
As far as reconnecting the power steering pump, do I need a whole new pump that will fit a V8 or just a different bracket? The original pump to the I6 is in working order, and still connected.
Will headers designed to fit 67-69 models work on that engine? The current headers I have fit the engine, but do not fit around the motor mounts/brackets on the frame.
Anyone also have advice connecting the original shift linkage to the transmission? They sell a conversion rod but it really looks the same as the one already in the car.
You will need the power steering bracket and alternator brackets. Standard pontiac first gen headers should fit. You should be able to get the shifter rod adjusted so it works providing the shift lever that attaches to the trans will work on the t350.
I haven't seen the power steering bracket anywhere, the engine already has an alternator bracket mounted. Will the same pulley work too or will that need to be changed over?
And do you put the trans in park (all the way forward?) And then attach the rod?
Where model is the engine out of? May need either 1st gen mounts or adapters to mount engine in correct position for headers to clear.
Was it complete with original alt, p/s, and pulleys attached? Be easier to use them since everythings already lined up. If not will need original 67-70 p/s bracket system when using 67-70 pump.
If 67's shifter asm is same as 68's, no need to change anything. At least didnt have to on mine.
'67 shifters are totally unique. Metal shifter rods vs cable pulls later on. If it is any help, the Firebird shifter setup was exactly the same as the Camaro on the TH 400 for '67.

I had hedman headers on my 67 with a 72 350... they bolted right up to the 400 I swapped it with... I'm horrible at finding time to ship stuff but I might have that ps bracket... I swapped all my belts to a serpentine system
Okay the T350 trans that is in the car now has the cable pull on the trans. How will that connect to the original shift link? Classic industries and NPD sell a shifter conversion rod? Anyone ever used that?
The engine actually bolted up using the first gen two hole mounts to those first gen V8 flat looking brackets. So I'm guessing headers designed to clear the first gen brackets should work?
The engine only came with an alternator and bracket, already attached. The car was originally power steering, so I have the pump, lines, and bracket that were off the I6. jman01 if you could find the bracket or where you ordered your headers from that would be a great help
I just bought one of those PS brackets from Frank's.

You can pick up a conversation kit from Shift Works to convert the 2 speed shifter to a 3 speed.

I'm always confused by the statement at Shifteorks website that states the Powerglide shifter can be used without modification on a TH350 or TH400.

I'm having some real issues with the engine being off center about 1/2-3/4 of an inch. I put in new engine-frame mounts, and brand new motor mounts. Its a '71 pontiac 350 in a original '67 6 cyl. The bolt holes aren't exactly lining up to the frame mounts. Could shims fix this? Could it be possible frame damage/out of line?
If I recall the engine will sit off-center to the right (passenger side) to clear the steering box. Maybe loosen up the engine-frame mounts to see if the slop in the holes are enough to make things work.
I've heard that too, but how much is too off center? And thats off center as in side to side, not vertically. Right now I'm using the 2 hole mounts designed for 67-69 400 from classic industries. Would motor mounts made for a '67 326 fit better? According to the catalog they have right and left designations, where the 400 mounts can be used on either side.
All Pontiac V8 blocks are identical externally, so they all use the same motor mounts. The exception are later '70's blocks with 5 or later 3 motor mount attachment holes.
I take it you installed the V8 motor mount brackets on the subframe crossmember before the motor mounts? They would be different from the straight 6 ones.

Yes I installed new v8 frame to mount brackets. They are different than the six ones but the bolt holes all lined up on the cross member, so I didn't think much of it.
Last time the motor went in new MMs were used. Didn't line up for [censored]. Seemed like the motor was sitting too low and could not get a full bolt hole for the bolt to thread into. I finally had to jack the motor up enough to get both bolts in and then let it down. It didn't seem like a good idea to leave it like that and I suspected that the pan was sitting on the frame. So I went ahead and shimmed both sides with .130 thick steel. Bolts went in fine and now have 1/4" clearance under the pan. Less vibration too. All good. I suspect that after time things get bent out of shape and adjustments must be made to allow for it.

not to hijack the thread.. but when I put my new motor In everything lined up pretty good .. but the pan sits right on the frame... I thought about shimming it.. something an 1/8 inch?? between where though??
Yesterday I lifted the motor up again and re-positioned it better. Sat on the mounts fine and torqued it down. The two bolts to the trans lined up with the crossmember, so I'm assuming everything is good? Visually the motor looks slightly turned towards the passenger side, but the oil pan clears.
Are there any measurements I can take to verify? or is this just a visual trick because the car is on jack stands and the nose clip is off
