Looking for some input on speaker/head unit and sub locations in my convertible. Thinking about the kick panels with the speakers and possibly mounting the other two in the factory places for the convertibles. Also thinking about mounting the sub under rear seat. I'm trying to avoid any cutting. I have my original AM unit in the dash. Looking at some of the direct fit replacements and eliminating my original or possibly mounting head unit in glove box. Any suggestions appreciated.
I have had speakers mounted in the back and behind the rear seat in different configurations. Currently they are on the floor in the back of the car. If I was starting over I would get some good kick panel speakers.
Yea, it's tough to get a good sound system with our verts without cutting panels. Have tried several postions with keeping speakers hidden. And not cutting panels. Best I could come up with is hidden subs under the seats and dual in the dash. Sounds marginal, but keeps the interior correct. have been thinking of going wireless with the small portable wifi sub speakers played off your phone.
Great idea... I don't believe a really good solution to this problem has ever been found... until maybe now. Portable wifi speaker(s) might be the way to go, as some of them have a lot of bass for their size. Would be interesting to see how they perform with the top down and revs up.
They should at least sound better than the factory speaker. Yes, they don't overcome the fundamental issue of when the top is down. I'm looking first for 6x9s that will fit in the repop enclosures.

There are a few threads on this subject. I have the Alpine head unit in the glove box with a RF repeater and remote so I can tune and adjust volume with the glove box open or closed.
I bought another set of A-Pillar moldings and mounted tweeters up hi in them (no one ever notices them even at shows. I have a dual speaker in the dash, 4x6 high end speakers in the stock kick panel locations under stock grills.
Vikki was able to mount slim line 6.5" speakers in the side panels where the top folds down
I have 6x9's mounted in boxes firing forward where the top folds down, a 4 channel amp and a sub in the trunk I plan on doing better custom boxes for the 6x9's and a permanent enclosure for the sub (just a 10" Bazooka tube right now)
I must say I'm pleased with how clear it is top up or down. I actually have to have the tunes turned down if I have people in the car on the freeway, top up or down. But as I mentioned I'm still configuring everything in the trunk and will make custom panels to hide everything at some point...
So lots can be done with out being too invasive or doing anything that can't be undone...
