I'm stoked! While messing about in the middle of nowhere, I stopped in an antique store and found an Indiana 1967 plate. Some rust, but no dents or folds. I gonna restored it get it registered.
While on the topic.. I found some mint condition 1968 warranty packets. All the stubs are intact. Let me know if there is any interest. If there is, they have hundreds of plates from all over the country. If you need one, sent me the state and year and I'll see if I can find one.
Oh.. the best part.. The license plate was $5.

I can recommend a great plate restorer in PA. But it might take a looooooooooooooooooong time.

Very cool. I found a set of 68 Iowa plates that I bought before I even bought my bird... kinda the cart before the horse thing, but it worked out well. Same colors as your 67's but with a red trim ring around the outside.

You should verify with your local DMV. In Minnesota, they specifically state that "restored" license plates are not acceptable for re-use.
I'm sure they are concerned about fake plates being created under the cover of "restoration".
I'm not sure how one could tell unless observed under close inspection, but I just wanted members to be aware of some State's requirements.
I found a few sets of NOS Minnesota '68 plates a few years back for under $20. They look brand new.

It is s nice touch to our cars. I have the original Minnesota '68 plates my '68 wore back then. I only put them on at car shows.
Jim, did I miss something along the way? You used to be in 'Uf Da' land?

My wife's 'vert (the one with the clean trunk) has the original MN plates issued back in '68. They look as new as the trunk and lid. Very cool having those!

Never lived up there but the car did wear MN plates. I am the 1st owner past the original dealer but the car was a corporate lease for its 1st 15 months. The dealer was in Springfield, IL. The company leasing and registering it was in MN. And the employee who drove it was apparently in ME. My Dad worked for that same company and saw the car sitting in the corporate lot in MN where it was returned after the ME employee was no longer with the company. I also have my first '69 plates I used as part of a small license plate collection.

I am semi active, maybe less actually, in the license plate collecting circles. Here is a group of collectors that would likely have any YOM tag you might seek. It is a fine and very knowledgeable group. Sign up on Yahoo Groups and ask away! Cal
In Indiana, we can restore our plates, they just have to be the original colors. I took a little break from my brake problems, and got started! Picts: 1. After stripping 2. After grinding. Used brass wire wheel on the tough stuff, but moved to a stainless steel dremel brush pretty fast. That's thin sheet metal, didn't want to ruin it. 3. 4 coats of etching primer to fill in all the pock marks 4. 10 coats of gloss white.
Just have to do the lettering.. and we're done. Safety Red.
I'll be heading down there in about a week, so I will check on all the plates.
