All, I am pretty sure this is a GM 10 bolt 8.2" B.O.P. rear end. I am just trying to figure out if its from a 67 firebird, etc. These are the only numbers I can find and pictures. Any help would be appreciated. Also, is this a posi carrier or an open diff?
Yes, definitely BOP. If is has leaf spring perches that makes it firebird. It has the ears on the pumpkin which should make it a 67. Those are the control arm mounts for A body. They used tempest pumpkins in 67. Also has traction bar mount which was 67 only. It doesn't look like a safety trac
Thanks for the information. It came out of my 67 firebird convertible. It has both the lower left and right control arms. I am in the process of putting Hotchkiss suspension on it and replacing all the bushings. I am trying to find out if its the correct rear end. It appears to be.
How do I know if it is a safety track diff, posi of some kind, or an open diff. Someone else on another site seems to think its a posi diff.
It doesn't look like what I remember mine looked like when I had the cover off. BOP safe-t-track has cones instead of clutches that Chebby posi's have. Someone else can weigh in. One way to tell is turn one hub and if the other one turns the same direction it's a safe-t-track
I gave you the link to my nodular axle blog post on Facebook today. You have a correct nodular 67 rear axle. 336 safety track posi. A great rear axle made with nodular iron. Stronger then the grey iron castings rear axles.
Add to that the twin OEM traction bar setups (from a manual trans car) and you have as nice a find as the 3.55 4-pinion nodular '67 FB rear I found in a junk yard in Phoenix a long time ago. Nice score.
