I was browsing e-bay for '69 Firebird collectables when I came across a Danbury Mint 40th anniversary '69 Firebird die-cast. I never knew they existed. I guess they all were Carousel Red coupes. The price was more than the original $129.00 asking price but since I had never seen one I jumped on it. Only problem......my '69 is a convertible! I'm not sure if cutting the top off of a Danbury Mint model hurts the value (it probably does) but hey it's mine to do what I want, right. It did take some sole searching to stat cutting but cut I did and here are the results 920-680-1902/firebird/IMGP1689_zpsinrx7flb.jpg[/IMG] I also had to paint the interior black to match my car (no way to change from standard to deluxe though). I'm happy with the results and not worried about the value, I have no plans to ever get rid of it. Merry Christmas to me!

Wow, awesome job on it. Did you fabricate the convertible cover yourself?

Wow, awesome job on it. Did you fabricate the convertible cover yourself? The top boot was another e-bay find. Who knew that there are guys parting out plastic models, kind of a 1/24th scale salvage yard!

I did similar , but tio a much smaller model...and it was white (and did not repaint it), I just made a black top cover out of thin cardboard and spray painted...it was easy to take coupe top off as there was a juncture there on the model...
good job, looks lots better than mine!... I`ll see if I remember to take a pic of mine to post...

If you took photos with it on a black background, that would improve the visual appeal.
