I recently bought a new gas tank for my 69 bird. I bought it thru Summit, which is actually drop shipped from Dynacorn. When it arrived I noticed it was painted Aluminum color? Is this typical for others who have bought tanks? It was painted and then dragged around as the bottom side paint was scratched off.
So now, I have to either repaint it, or remove the paint, or just return it and find one that is not painted?
The originals were aluminum color. I'm not sure what your question is.

Years ago I purchased a new tank and it appeared to be steel instead of stainless steel. Fearing future surface rust, I sprayed it with Eastwood's Tank Tone paint. It comes out looking like aluminum.

My question is should the tank be painted for a proper restoration or natural color.
I presumed a bare steel that I would clear over.
Either way, Dynacorn did a crappy job of protecting the paint on the tank. It's all scuffed up on the bottom. So now I have to paint it (either strip the paint and redo, or match the paint).
Ahhh.. I clear coated the ones I installed. But there were bare metal, not painted.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think 95% sure the three of them I bought were all Dynacorn.
None were painted. But that would have been 5-7 years ago for mine.
